WILMINGTON, N.C. - Five members of the George Mason men's soccer team garnered honors from the Colonial Athletic Association on Thursday evening. Four Patriots earned All-CAA honors, while another made the All-Rookie Team, for helping Mason earn a 10-7-1 overall record during the 2009 season.

Senior goalkeeper Sean Kelley was Mason's lone First-Team All-CAA selection. Senior midfielder Richard Edgar was named to the second team, where he was joined by junior forward Victor Freeman. Junior forward Ernesto Marquez earned third-team honors. Freshman defender Ryan Reichmann was named to the conference's All-Rookie Team.

Victor Freeman earned Second-Team All-CAA honors in his first season at Mason.

Kelley earned All-CAA honors for the second straight season and third time in his career after leading the conference in saves with a total of 82. The Lexington, Ky. native started all 18 matches in goal and recorded a 1.00 goals against average with five shutouts.

Edgar, a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist, started all 18 matches at midfield for the Patriots. A native of Mechanicsville, Md., Edgar totaled two assists and two points this season while also playing a key role for a Mason defensive unit that posted six shutouts during the year.

A native of Bowie, Md., Freeman missed the first five matches of the season but provided an immediate offensive spark when he returned to the pitch. Freeman led the team in goals (7), assists (4) and points (18) during the season, and ranked seventh in the CAA in both goals and points. Three of Freeman's goals were game-winners.

Ernesto Marquez garnered the first All-CAA honor of his career on Thursday.

Rounding out the All-CAA selections is Marquez, who finished second on the team in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11). Marquez scored the game-winning goal in Mason's 1-0 shutout at William and Mary on Oct. 3.

The Patriots lone representative on the All-Rookie Team is Reichmann, who started 17 matches as a freshman. The Hicksville, N.Y. native's seamless transition to the collegiate level helped a young Patriot defensive unit record a total of six shutouts during the season.

William and Mary senior forward Andrew Hoxie won the 2009 CAA Men's Soccer Player of the Year Award based on voting by the conference's head coaches. Other top individual awards went to Hofstra senior back Richard Martinez, who was named the CAA Defender of the Year; Northeastern freshman forward Don Anding, who was named the CAA Rookie of the Year; and UNCW head coach Aidan Heaney, who was selected the CAA Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

The CAA Championship Tournament begins tomorrow at UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, N.C. with the semifinal round. Third-seeded Northeastern will face second-seeded William and Mary at 5 p.m. Fourth-seeded Old Dominion will take on the top seed and host UNCW at 7:30 p.m. The winners of the semifinal matches will advance to the championship match, scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. George Mason won last year's CAA Championship match by a final score of 1-0 against Northeastern.
