CENTERVILLE, Mass. -
George Mason senior goalkeeper Sean Kelley was named the ECAC Division I Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning. It is the third honor Kelley has received in the past week as the Lexington, Ky. native also earned CAA Player of the Week and George Mason Student-Athlete of the Month honors for his stellar play.
Kelley had an outstanding week in goal for the 23rd-ranked Patriot men's soccer team, recording a pair of shutouts, including a win over the second-ranked, defending national champion Maryland Terrapins in front of 2,781 fans on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at George Mason Stadium. Against Maryland, Kelley made six saves, including several key stops in the second half to protect a 2-0 Patriot lead. Kelley followed up Tuesday's performance with four saves in a 1-0 win over William and Mary in a CAA contest on Saturday evening to lead the Patriots to a 2-0 start in conference matches.
Kelley has held opponents scoreless for 435:39 and five consecutive matches, all Patriot wins. George Mason has outscored opponents 10-0 during the winning streak. Mason returns to the pitch this evening with a 7 p.m. match against Towson at George Mason Stadium.
