Box Score

WILMINGTON, N.C. - A goal by No. 23 UNCW's Allen Lomax in the 82nd minute broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Seahawks past George Mason 2-1 in a Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer match on Saturday evening at UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, N.C.

With the loss, Mason's record falls to 10-6-1 and 5-4-1 in the CAA. UNCW improves to 11-2-3 and 7-0-2 in conference matches with the win. The loss eliminates the Patriots from CAA Championship contention. The top-four teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the conference tournament, scheduled to begin on Friday, Nov. 13 at the home of the top seed. George Mason won last year's CAA Championship and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.

With the score knotted at one late in the second half, Lomax slipped a shot through the left side past senior goalkeeper Sean Kelley for the game-winner after UNCW got a three-on-two breakaway. Daniel Roberts recorded an assist on the score.

The Patriots took an early lead in the match on the second goal of the season by freshman forward Alhagi Toure. Toure took a cross from the left side from Ernesto Marquez and headed it into the net in the fourth minute to put Mason up by a goal.

The Seahawks scored the equalizer in the 58th minute. Shawn Guderian sent a pass through the right side and Nassim Berhouni stuck his foot out and sent the ball into the goal past Kelley to tie the score at one.

Kelley finished with six saves in 90 minutes in the loss. UNCW goalkeeper Brock Duckworth finished with one save in 90 minutes. UNCW outshot Mason 13 to seven in the match.

George Mason returns home for its final match of the regular season against Old Dominion on Saturday, Nov. 7 at George Mason Stadium. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Seniors Richard Edgar, Sean Kelley and Alex Procter will be honored prior to the start of the match.
