Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at the Mason Invitational

CENTREVILLE, Va. - George Mason's men's cross country team finished in third place at the 2009 Mason Invitational, held on Saturday morning at Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, Va. Two Patriots finished in the top-15 for the men's team.

Mason's top finisher was sophomore Everett Hackett, who crossed the finish line in 12th place with a time of 25:25. Senior Sam Horn followed closely, finishing 14th with a time of 25:27. The top-three finishers in the 8k race were all from Virginia, with Emil Heineking leading the way with a time of 24:37. The Cavaliers finished first in the team scoring, with Columbia and George Mason rounding out the top three.

In the women's 6k race, freshman Rochelle Sceats paced the Patriots with a ninth-place finish and time of 21:47. Sophomore Sandy Castro was the next Patriot to cross the finish line, running to a 34th-place finish with a time of 23:28. Mason finished in sixth place in the team scoring on the women's side. Virginia, Georgetown and Columbia finished first, second and third in the team scoring.

George Mason continues its 2009 cross country schedule two weeks from now with a pair of competitions. The Patriots will split between The Penn State National in University Park, Pa. on Oct. 16 and the Blue and Gold Invitational in Newark, Del. on Oct. 17.
