The George Mason women's volleyball team continues its push towards the postseason this weekend when it hosts a pair of CAA foes at the Recreation & Athletic Complex. The Patriots face UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m. Friday, and will match up with the Georgia State Panthers at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Friday's match is the Broadside Game of the Week. All Mason students receive free admission by showing their Mason student ID, and can receive a FREE Chick-fil-A Sandwich while supplies last.
The Patriots enter the weekend with a 17-7 record overall, and a 6-3 mark in CAA play. Mason currently sits in sole possesion of fourth place in the conference, with the top four teams eligible to advance to the CAA Championship tournament from Nov. 20-22.
Junior Holly Goode leads the Mason offense with 275.5 points and 240 kills, third-most in the CAA. Goode is hitting at a .292 clip, leading a Patriots team which leads the conference in team hitting percentage (.222). Sophomore Kelsey Bohman paces the Mason blocking unit with a conference-high 1.31 blocks per set, a figure which ranks 27th in the nation.
UNC Wilmington is 13-12 overall and 3-5 in the CAA, coming off a week in which it defeated non-conference foe N.C. Central as well as the Panthers of Georgia State. Lindsey Strucko leads the Seahawks with 304 points on 277 kills and is second on the team with 248 kills.
Georgia State holds a record of 16-8 overall and 3-5 in the CAA. The Panthers face James Madison on Friday night in Harrisonburg before traveling to the RAC.
Following the weekend, the Patriots have just one home match remaining on their 2009 schedule, when the JMU Dukes come to Fairfax on Senior Night, November 14 at 7 p.m.
