Box Score

Williamsburg, Va. - Omolyn Davis had a hat trick and the George Mason women's soccer team picked up its first win over William & Mary since 2003 as the Patriots beat the Tribe, 3-2 in overtime on Friday. It was Mason's first win at Williamsburg since 2000. It's the most goals in a game against William & Mary since 1996 when Mason took a 4-1 win at Williamsburg.

The win, coupled with other results in the CAA, moves Mason (12-4-2, 4-3-2) from seventh to fifth. Mason trails James Madison and UNC Wilmington, tied for third, by two points. Old Dominion, Mason's next opponent, trails the Patriots by one point while William & Mary (10-7, 4-5) now trails by two.

"We displayed the heart of a championship team after conceding a goal in the last 50 seconds and being able to recover in overtime and find a win to way," said Mason head coach Diane Drake. "Davis was in a special zone and demonstrated her ability to take a game over."

The Patriots got the scoring started early as Tiana Kallenberger crossed from the right wing to Theresa DeLucca who touched it back to Davis who finished to the left post from 15 yards out. Her eighth goal of the year came just six minutes into the contest. Mason nearly made it 2-0 in the 36th minute but DeLucca's shot hit the post and was cleared by the Tribe.

The Tribe were able to tie the contest at 1-1 in the 50th minute as Kaitlin O'Connor scored her third goal of the season, bending the ball off a free kick into the near post despite Mason goalie Katie Frey getting her hands on it. In the 67th minute, Mason once again took this and again Kallenberger hooked up with Davis. This time, the goal came on a breakaway with Kallenberger threading a pass to the streaking redshirt junior.

The game only went to overtime because of heroics from Stephanie Gerow. In the 90th minute, Katy Winsper played a long service to Gerow who cut back from right to center and finished to the right side. The game-winning goal came in the 96th minute, an unassisted score that saw Davis break free in the center, cut back at the 18-yard mark and finish to the upper right side of the net.

"Tiana continues to play much older than a freshman," Drake said. "Our seniors continue to lead this group. I am very proud of their character."

Frey faced 20 shots with seven on goal, making five saves. Grace Barnard saw 10 shots with six on goal, stopping three of them. The 12 wins for Mason are the most since 2000 when Mason was 12-9-0. One more win would give Mason its most wins since 1997 when the Patriots were 14-6-4.

The Patriots will return to action on Sunday when they play at Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
