The George Mason women's volleyball team returns home from the road as it will face a pair of Colonial Athletic Association opponents this weekend at the RAC Gym in VCU and William & Mary. The Patriots will do battle with the Rams at 7 p.m. Friday in the Broadside Game of the Week, while Mason and the Tribe will meet Saturday at 4 p.m.
Admission to each day's match is $5 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and youth. Mason students receive free admission with valid student ID and on Friday night, will receive a free Chipotle burrito while supplies last.
Mason enters the weekend following a 10-match road trip, concluding with Saturday's sweep over Towson. The Patriots are 12-5 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. Senior Laura Turner leads the Mason attack with 179.5 points including 123 kills, 57 blocks and 23 aces. As a team, the Patriots lead the CAA with an average of 2.34 blocks per set, with sophomore Kelsey Bohman averaging a conference-high 1.32 blocks per set.
VCU also sports a 12-5 record overall, and was victorious in their lone conference match thus far, a 3-1 victory at William & Mary. Mariel Frey leads the Rams with 205 points on team-high 168 kills. The Rams lead the CAA in team kills (12.52 kps) and team assists (11.37 aps).
Following their loss to VCU, the Tribe are 0-1 in CAA play and 7-7 overall. Erin Skipper leads the way with 147 kills as part of her team-high 172.5 points. Lindsey Pflugner leads the conference with her 4.95 digs-per-set average and as a team, W&M leads the CAA with a .132 opponent hitting percentage.
Following this weekend's action, the Patriots visit James Madison next Saturday and then head north to Hofstra and Northeastern the following week.
