George Mason Athletics Women's Soccer 9/8/2008 12:00:00 AM

Sept. 8, 2008

George Mason junior Kelly Keelan made just her second and third career starts in net for the Patriots this past weekend and after posting back-to-back shutouts, she was named both the Mason Tournament MVP and the CAA Co-Player of the Week. Keelan stopped four shots in Mason's 1-0 overtime win over Hartford and she added another seven saves in Mason's 1-0 win over Mississippi State as the Patriots won the Mason Tournament.

Keelan has played as a forward almost exclusively over the past two seasons. In 2006, she played 13 games with two starts scoring two goals with one assist. In 2008, she started seven games, appearing in 19 contests, with six goals and four assists, leading the team in both goals and assists. She was named third-team All-CAA at forward last year.

This year, she started the first two contests at forward and scored twice and she currently leads the Patriots in goals. On Aug. 30, with Mason 0-2-0, she trained in net for the first time since 2006. In her first collegiate start at goalkeeper, she stopped nine shots but lost, 2-0. She followed that up with a week of practice in the net and back-to-back 1-0 wins.

Keelan shares the award with Kay Harbrueger of Georgia State who scored three goals and had two assists in a pair of wins.

The Patriots will return to action on Friday at home against Indiana at 7 p.m. The contest is the Broadside Game of the Week
