Farmville, Va. - The George Mason women's soccer team went to overtime with the game scoreless for the second time this year and the Patriots were unable to come away with their second 1-0 win as Mason fell at Longwood, 1-0 early in the second overtime period.

The Patriots outshot Longwood, 17-6, and Mason had eight shots on goal to Longwood's three but the Lancers came away with the victory. Mason fell to 3-5-0 on the year while Longwood improved to 4-2-1.

"This is the ugly side of soccer,' said Mason head coach Diane Drake. "The best team doesn't always win. We will continue to plug away and fight for our results."

The game-winning goal came from Lauren Trizna, her first of the year. It came off a free kick from 35 yards out and went in just over the hands of Mason goalie Alex Bodenschatz. Making her second career start in net, the freshman stopped two of the three shots she faced. Longwood goalie Marcia Biddle made eight saves in the game.

The Patriots will return to action on Friday when they travel to James Madison to open Colonial Athletic Association with a 7 p.m. match.
