Sept. 19, 2008

The George Mason women's soccer team will hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the Longwood Lancers as the Patriots look to reach .500 for the first time this season.

Mason has won three of its past four matches, outscoring the opposition 12-5 in those contests. Included in those games were a pair of 1-0 wins and a 9-1 victory over Howard that saw Mason recording an offensive total unseen in more than a dozen years. The Patriots, after an 0-3 start, are looking to make it 4-4-0 before entering Colonial Athletic Association action. This is Mason's final non-conference game of the season.

Longwood has also played well of late winning two of its past three matches. The Lancers took 1-0 overtime wins over VMI and Appalachian State before falling to UNC Wilmington, 2-0, its last time out. The Lancers have been superb on defense allowing just five goals on the year and recording four shutouts while compiling a 3-2-1 record. Marcia Biddle has been in goal for all six matches. Kacie Oliver leads Longwood with two goals while Kayla Huggins and Michelle DeSieno each had one score. Kaylyn Mahon and Brenda Cary each have an assist.

Mason has been led this season by Kelly Keelan. The junior has two shutouts in net and leads Mason with five goals, including a hat trick in her last match. Annie Lebherz has two goals and two assists, Patti Benner has two goals and Jessica Paris has five assists. Six other Patriots have one goal and seven other Patriots have assists.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Mason and Longwood.
