Box Score

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The George Mason men's soccer team opened its 2008 preseason schedule with a 2-0 loss to in-state rival Virginia Tech at the Tech Soccer Stadium in Blacksburg, Va. on Wednesday. Junior Charlie Campbell scored twice to lead the Hokies to the win, while freshman Phil Aseweh assisted on both goals.

Virginia Tech scored its first goal when Campbell scored off of a rebound to end the first half. Aseweh sent a ball in the box to Campbell, who found the back of the net to put the Hokies ahead, 1-0. Campbell struck again in the second half, scoring from the right side, after Asewah passed the ball to sophomore Clarke Bentley, who sent it on to Campbell for the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brendan Dunn registered seven saves in the match for the Hokies, stopping a key first-half shot by Mason freshman Draymond Washington to keep the Patriots off the board. Washington took four shots in the match to tie senior Lucas Pardew for the team lead. Mason outshot Virginia Tech 16-13 in the match and held a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.

The Patriots return to the field on Sunday, Aug. 24 for their final exhibition match of the 2008 season at Georgetown. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
