Ahoure, McCoy Earn USTFCCCA All-East Region Honors
INDIANAPOLIS - George Mason senior Ryan McCoy will have the opportunity to extend his career in Green and Gold as he has been selected to participate at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the triple jump event. The Roanoke, Va., native has now qualified for the meet three times in his career.
McCoy narrowly missed an automatic berth last weekend at the East Regional Championship in Tallahassee, Fla., as his 15.92-meter distance placed him in sixth. He recorded the farthest distance of any student-athlete to not receive an automatic bid during the four regional meets held last weekend. Of the 26 entrants listed as qualifiers for the event, McCoy ranks 22nd in distance.
His career best in the event came in 2006 when he captured the IC4A title in the triple jump with a 15.99-meter mark.
McCoy will join junior Murielle Ahoure to represent the Mason delegation at the national championships, which will be contested June 11-14 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Ahoure received automatic entry into the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes by virtue of a fourth-place finish at the East Regions.
A total of 544 student-athletes per gender will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships through participation in one of four regional championship meets.
The complete list of all student-athletes competing in the championships is available on the NCAA Web site.
