June 3, 2008

After their performances at this past weekend's NCAA East Regional Outdoor Track and Field Championships, senior Ryan McCoy and junior Murielle Ahoure were both recognized as part of the USTFCCA All-East Region Team. Ahoure was named to the list in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, while McCoy was recognized for his performance in the triple jump.

Ahoure, a native of Bristow, Va., finished in fourth place in both the 100-meter and 200-meter, earning an automatic qualification into next week's National Championships in both events. In the 100, she ran a time of 11.71 in the finals following a preliminary time of 11.45, while she completed the 200 in 23.59. Ahoure thus qualified for the NCAA Championships for the seventh and eighth times in her career.

McCoy narrowly missed an automatic berth in the triple jump national championships, as his 15.92-meter distance placed him in sixth. However, the Roanoke, Va., native has a strong shot at one of the NCAA's national championship at-large berths as his jump was the longest in any of the regional meets by a competitor who did not earn an automatic qualification.

The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will be held from June 11-14 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
