Fairfax, Va (March 13, 2008)--George Mason University is inviting fans to celebrate the Mason men's basketball team's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament at the Mason Nation Selection Rally that will be held in the Johnson Center Atrium on the Fairfax Campus on Sunday, March 16, beginning at 5:30 p.m. At the event, the Patriots will find out their First Round opponent, game date, and location during the NCAA Selection Show on CBS starting at 6 p.m. The Mason Nation Selection Rally is presented by Verizon Wireless and the Apple Federal Credit Union.
"It's an incredibly exciting time for the University, the George Mason community and our basketball program following our CAA Championship victory. Share the excitement with me and the team as the NCAA Tournament pairings are announced on CBS," said Larranaga.
Along with President Alan Merten, head coach Jim Larranaga, and the Patriots team, the Pep Band led by Doc Nix, Masonettes, cheerleaders and mascot Gunston will be on hand to lead the celebration. Two large viewing screens will be set up to view the CBS Selection Show.
A limited number of food court options will be open during the rally. The Mason Bookstore will be open 5:00-7:30 pm on Selection Sunday. There will be a 25% off sale on selected items including some hats and t-shirts. The 25% off sale does not include any type of March Madness apparel.
There are other events on campus; therefore recommended parking options are in Lot J and K, Sandy Creek parking deck at a $2 per hour or the Mason Pond parking deck at $5.
