NEWARK, Del. - The 11th-seeded George Mason women's basketball team fell to No. 6 Northeastern, 78-46, in the opening round of the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Championship, held Friday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center. With the victory, Northeastern moves on to play third-seeded Virginia Commonwealth in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

The Patriots were led by freshman Eugenia Broadus, who matched a season-high with 12 points on 6-for-7 field goal shooting. Meanwhile, three Huskies reached double figures, paced by a 21-point day from Lucia Pablos.

Mason scored the game's first points with a pair of baskets by Broadus and Eley, but a 30-3 run by the Huskies put them comfortably ahead in the early part of the game. The run, which spanned nearly eight minutes, was punctuated by Pablos's three at the 11:09 mark to give NU a 30-7 lead. Wilkins broke the Mason scoring drought with a free throw, but the Patriots could move no closer than 22 in the period following the run.

NU shot a blistering 68 percent (17-25) from the field in the first half, including 7-of-9 from beyond the arc, en route to a 49-16 halftime lead. Mason, meanwhile, connected on just six of its 23 field goal attempts (26.1 percent) and was out-rebounded 20-to-11.

Thursday was the final game in a Mason uniform for four seniors: forward Moni Akintunde, and guards C'Vette Henson, CAA All-Academic second team honoree Casey Quigley and Lateisha Wade.
