Feb. 20, 2008

The George Mason women's basketball team will try to halt its losing streak at two games when it travels to Boston on Thursday to face Northeastern. The two teams will meet twice in a two-week span, with the Huskies coming to Fairfax on Mar. 6 in both teams' regular-season finales. Mason has never lost to NU in the all-time series, winning all four of their matchups since the Huskies joined the Colonial Athletic Association in the 2005-06 season. Tip-off from Solomon Court is set for 7 p.m.

Northeastern enters Thursday's game tied with Mason in the conference standings with a 3-10 CAA record. The Huskies are 8-15 overall, and have won two of their last three conference matchups, including a one-point victory at William and Mary on Sunday afternoon. NU is led on offense by Shaleyse Smallwood, who is averaging 12.3 points per game.

On Sunday, senior Lateisha Wade connected on all five attempts from beyond the arc en route to a game-high 23-point outing, but the UNC Wilmington Seahawks broke open a tight contest in the second half to earn a 69-55 victory in Colonial Athletic Association action at Patriot Center. Mason falls to 9-15, 3-10 in the CAA, while the Seahawks (15-9, 6-7) earned the season sweep with the win. Wade was the lone Patriot to score in double figures, while Brittany Blackwell led the Seahawks with 22 points. She was joined in double digits by Sahsha Taylor and Candace Walker, who chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. Wade also recorded a season-high six assists, while junior Jessica Smith pulled down a team-best six rebounds.

Wade's performance from beyond the arc is believed to be the best performance in school history from beyond the arc without a miss. Four of Wade's treys came on assists by Moni Akintunde, who tied a career best with the four helpers.

Following Thursday's game, Mason returns home to host Towson in a regionally-televised matchup on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Patriot Center. The telecast can be viewed on Comcast SportsNet PLUS.
