WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - George Mason junior outside hitter Rebecca Walter added to her list of awards on Thursday when she was selected as a member of the VaSID University Division Volleyball All-State Second Team, as selected by active members of the Virginia Association of Sports Information Directors.
Walter was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association second team in November after leading the Patriots and ranking third in the conference with 3.31 kills per set and 3.74 points per set. Totaling 311 kills, 187 digs, 40 blocks and 18 aces on the season, the Monbulk, Victoria, Australia native powered the Mason offense which ended its season on a three-match winning streak.
Walter ended the year with a career performance, recording seven total blocks while marking her eighth double-double of the year with 12 kills and 12 digs in the season finale against Georgia State. She was a CAA All-Rookie selection her freshman season with the Patriots in 2006.
Mason finished its season with a 9-18 record after recording three consecutive victories to close out the year, earning eighth place in the conference standings with a CAA mark of 5-9.
Joining Walter on the second team were Virginia Tech freshman Erin Leaser, Virginia Commonwealth junior Ivana Rich, Liberty sophomore Nicki Scripko, James Madison senior Lauren Miles, Virginia senior Shannon Davis, and Hampton senior Alyssa Jackson.
The first team consisted of Liberty juniors Kallie Corbin and Chelaine McCarty, senior Kim Mount and sophomore Erin Skipper of William and Mary, Virginia Tech sophomore Felicia Willoughby and Virginia junior Lauren Dickson.
Corbin was named the state's Athlete of the Year, while Leaser earned Rookie of the Year honors. Liberty's Shane Pinder was selected as the Coach of the Year.
