HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The George Mason women's volleyball team traveled to Hofstra on Sunday afternoon seeking a vital Colonial Athletic Association victory, but the Pride dealt the Patriots a 3-0 defeat (25-18, 26-24, 25-19). Mason fell to 2-9 in the CAA and 6-18 overall, while Hofstra improved to 15-11 and 7-3 in conference play.

Senior Jourdan Dozier and sophomore Holly Goode led the Patriots with seven kills apiece, while Dozier contributed a match-high six total blocks. Freshman Katrina Boryc led all players with 15 digs. For the Pride, Monica Knight tallied 16 kills to lead all players.

Hofstra scored the opening point of the match but a 5-0 Mason run gave the Patriots the lead. The Pride, however, worked their way back into the match and retook the lead, and while Mason remained close throughout, the Pride were able to hold its lead and win the first set.

The second set was the closest of the day, as neither team led by more than four points. A number of ties and lead changes kept the set's outcome in doubt till the very end. Facing its first set point at 24-23, Dozier slammed a kill to turn the set into a tie once again. Knight registered two straight kills, though, to seal the second set victory for Hofstra.

In the third and final set, the Pride never trailed as they held a .314-to.-.079 hitting advantage to complete the sweep. Leading 7-6, Hofstra rattled off five points in a row to expand its lead to six. That lead grew as large as nine as the Pride dealt Mason its sixth straight loss.

Mason closes out the road portion of its 2008 regular season schedule next Saturday when the Patriots visit James Madison at 7 p.m.
