FAIRFAX, Va. - Freshman Becky Cox scored 10 points on 80 percent field goal shooting in her collegiate debut to lead the George Mason women's basketball team in a 75-46 loss to in-state foe Richmond on Sunday afternoon at Patriot Center. Richmond improved to 2-0 in the win while Mason was unable to get its first win of the year, falling to 0-2.

Cox connected on four of her five field goal attempts en route to 10 points, and led the Patriots with seven rebounds and four assists as well. Sophomore Brittany Poindexter swiped four steals to go with her eight points and four rebounds.

Richmond, which shot 46.4 percent from the field (26-for-56) for the game, was led by 16 points from Danielle Bell, who did not miss a shot in the contest.

The Patriots, who were out-rebounded by a 36-to-29 margin, found themselves in a deep hole from the outset as Richmond opened the game on a 9-0 run. Mason's first basket of the game came on a layup from senior Brittney Wilkins, who had six points on the day, but the Spiders' offensive explosion continued as the lead grew as large as 25-6 with just over 10 minutes expired, and up to 22 points at 38-16.

Freshman Amber Epps contributed three of her five points in the waning minutes of the first half to set the margin at 38-19 as the teams headed to the locker room.

Richmond's control of the game continued into the second half as the UR lead swelled as large as 40 points before Mason closed the game on a 17-4 run, ending with a 3-pointer from Whitney Ward with three seconds left.

Mason hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, seeking its first victory when it faces UMBC at 7 p.m. in Baltimore.
