Hempstead, N.Y. - The George Mason women's soccer team took on the Colonial Athletic Association's first-place team on Friday night and Mason was unable to pull off a second-straight road upset as the Patriots fell at Hofstra, 2-0. Mason beat James Madison last Friday to end the Dukes' 19-match home unbeaten streak but Mason couldn't replicate the magic this time around as Hofstra held Mason to one shot on goal.

The Pride scored in the 14th minute when Diane Caldwell scored her third goal of the year. Jess Crankshaw got the play started crossing the ball to Tiffany Yovino who knocked it down to set up Caldwell from 10-yards out. The score stood at 1-0 at the half.

Early in the second half, Mason nearly got an equalizing goal as Jessica Paris sent a free kick to the back post and Patti Benner found it with her head but the ball was blocked by a Hofstra defender keeping the score 1-0. Hofstra got some space in the 66th minute when Yovino scored her fourth goal of the year, winning a 50-50 ball at the top of the box off a feed from Erika Fuertes.

Late in the match the Patriots nearly pulled to within a goal when Kelly Keelan, the Mason goaltender, came out of net to take a free kick from 20 yards out. She bent the ball around the wall but Krystal Robens made a diving save at the near post to keep the Patriots off the board.

Keelan made three saves on the night while Robens stopped Mason's one shot on goal. Mason will return to the pitch on Sunday when the Patriots play at Northeastern at 1 p.m.
