The George Mason women's volleyball team played its second straight road match on Saturday night and the Patriots were unable to pull off an upset playing at the Colonial Athletic Association's second-place team as Mason fell to William & Mary, 3-0. The Tribe beat the Patriots 25-17, 30-28, 25-21.
Rebecca Walter led the club with 17 kills while Sam Simmonds had eight kills and no errors on 15 attacks. Fernanda Bartels added 37 assists while Katrina Boryc had 12 digs and Bartels had 11 digs. Three players had double-figure kills for William & Mary while Kim Mount had 45 assists and eight digs.
The first set was locked in a 13-13 tie when the Tribe rolled off four straight points to go ahead 17-13. Mason never got closer than three points the rest of the way. After hitting .143 in the first set, Mason hit .357 in the second set as the teams tied at 16 times before William & Mary won back-to-back points to earn the second-set win.
In the final set, the teams were tied 18-18 before the Tribe won five of six points to take control and earn the 3-0 victory.
The Patriots will return to action on Friday when they play at Northeastern at 7 p.m.
