Box Score

Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason women's soccer team played one of the conference's top teams to a standstill for more than 80 minutes on Friday night but William & Mary was able to find a way to score in the 81st minute and take a 1-0 win in front of more than 1,000 fans at George Mason Stadium.

Kelly Keelan had seven saves for the Patriots while Meghan Walker had six stops for William & Mary. The Tribe improved to 12-5-1 overall, 7-2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association action. Mason fell to 4-12-1, 1-7-1.

Mason had one of its best scoring chances in the match's fourth minute as Jessica Paris blasted a shot from the left side but Meghan Walker was perfectly placed to stop the shot. From that point forward, there were few good looks for either team throughout the half.

Early in the second half, the Tribe had two terrific scoring opportunities, both times Kelly Keelan was there to thwart it. The first was a header by Dani Collins that Keelan, diving to her left, snared out of the air. The second, a shot by Brittany Lane, Keelan punched away diving to her right.

In the 72nd minute, William & Mary looked as if it was going to finally break the scoreless tie as Claire Zimmeck got the ball and had her shoulder on the inside of defender Nicole Peters. But Peters slid in front of Zimmeck just as she shot the ball, blocking the shot and keeping the Tribe off the board. In the 80th minute, Colleen Killiany had a good look from 18 yards out but Walker pulled the ball in for her fifth save.

One minute later, the Tribe finally broke through. Krissy Vornadore controlled the ball in the center of the field and she found Stephanie Gerow on the left wing. Gerow put the ballin the left corner of the net for the games lone goal.

The Patriots will return to action on Sunday when they host Old Dominion at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day, the final time in front of the home crowd for Nilani Duarte and Jessica Paris.
