BROOKLINE, Mass. -
The George Mason men's soccer team (6-5-2, 2-3-1 CAA) tied the top team in the Colonial Athletic Association standings, the Northeastern Huskies (5-2-6, 3-0-3 CAA), by a final score of 1-1 on Saturday evening at Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass. Sophomore forward Parker Walton scored his third goal of the season in the contest to tie for the team lead.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard first in the match, scoring in the 14th minute of play. Senior forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe crossed the ball to Walton, who was waiting in the center of the box. After receiving the cross, Walton knocked the ball past Northeastern goalkeeper Scott Partridge to give Mason the early lead.
George Mason played stout defense throughout, holding the lead until the 82nd minute, when the Huskies tied the score on Matthew Laning's first goal of the season. Lars Okland and Alexander Volk assisted on the goal.
Mason was outshot by Northeastern 16-10. However, freshman goalkeeper Alex Morgans was superb in his first career start, allowing only one goal in 110 minutes while recording five saves. His counterpart, Partridge, tallied two saves in the match.
The Patriots return home for their next contest, taking on Colonial Athletic Association rival Hofstra on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
