Dre Smith set an NCAA record on Saturday in a win over James Madison, and aside from his name finding its way into the NCAA record book, he also was honored as Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week. It's the first such honor for Smith.
Smith set a new NCAA record for most 3-pointers in a game without a miss as he went 10 of 10 from 3-point range. He set a Mason school record for 3-pointers in a game and his 11 of 12 shooting from the field tied the second-best shooting day in school history. He scored a career-high 34 and he also grabbed a career-high five rebounds.
Smith had nine points in a double-overtime win at Hofstra earlier in the week as the Patriots went 2-0 and won their first two road games of the year. Smith averaged 21.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 63.6 percent from the floor. He was 13 of 18 from 3-point range and moved into 10th place on the school's career 3-pointers list. He now has 103 on his career. He's also third on the school's career 3-point shooting percentage list and he leads the CAA in 3-point shooting percentage.
