George Mason freshman men's basketball player Cam Long had an outstanding week in his first two career starts and the Patriot was rewarded as he was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Co-Rookie of the Week. Long is the first Patriot to earn the honor since Louis Birdsong in December of 2006.
On the week, Long averaged 9.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists while making 8 of 9 shots from the field as Mason went 1-1. Long had six points, one rebound and one assist as Mason lost in overtime at Delaware. He played 22 minutes in that contest and was 3 of 3 from the field. Against Northeastern, Long scored 12 of Mason's first 21 points as the Patriots routed Northeastern, 80-52. He finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. He was 5 of 6 from the field including 2 of 2 from 3-point range. He played a career-high 36 minutes against the Huskies.
Long shared the award with Darius James of Old Dominion. Long and the Patriots will return to action on Thursday when the Patriots play at Hofstra at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
