Women's Soccer Hosts Mason Tournament on Friday, Sunday

The George Mason women's soccer team will play host to three schools this weekend as the Patriots host the Mason Tournament at George Mason Stadium with two matches on Friday and two on Sunday.

The first match of the tournament will pit George Washington vs. Georgetown at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will take on Stony Brook at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, The Hoyas will face Stony Brook at Noon with Mason taking on the Colonials at 2:30 p.m. Admission to each day's matches is $5 for adults, $2 for seniors and youths 18-and-under. Students with a Mason ID get in free. On Friday, the men's soccer team will take on Bowling Green at 2 p.m. and fans attending that game can stay for the women's tournament without purchasing a separate admission.

Mason enters the tournament with a 1-1-0 mark. The Patriots lost their opener to Rider, 2-0, but rebounded to beat Harvard, 2-1, and finish second in the Hartford Tournament. Rider went on to win the title. Mason seniors L.J. Williams and Sarah Fack and sophomore Kelly Keelan were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Williams scored the first goal of Mason's season on an assist from Alison Feldman. The second goal came from Keelan, who stole a pass on the back line and beat the goalkeeper. Fack was named to the All-Tournament team in both tournaments she participated in last year as well, and she look to make it four straight All-Tournament teams this weekend.

Stony Brook is 2-0-0 and the Seawolves have not allowed a goal all season. Marisa Viola has a pair of shutouts in net while Trine Allenberg, Danielle Tenaglia and Aria Tanzi have all scored goals while Allenberg and Tengalia have Stony Brook's two assists. The Seawolves opened the season with a 1-0 win over Siena and then beat Iona on Tuesday, 2-0.

The Hoyas, the lone team Mason will not face in the tournament, are 2-1-0. Georgetown opened the year with a pair of 1-0 victories, beating Richmond and Manhattan. The Hoyas then played at James Madison on Tuesday, falling to the Dukes, 2-1. Jackie DesJardin recorded the shutouts in net for Georgetown while Ingrid Wells, Sara Jordan and Sarah Fetters have the goals. Wells and Norah Swanson have the assists.

The Colonials (3-0-0) also have a pair of 1-0 wins on the year. George Washington opened the 2007 campaign with a 1-0 victory at New Hampshire. That was followed by a 2-1 overtime win at Vermont and a 1-0 win at home on Wednesday over Marshall. Amie Kern has been in net every minute this season for George Washington while the Colonials' goals have come from Kristen Slack, Meg Pyle, Keara Mehlert and Eric Wright. Slack has two assists and Pyle has one assist.

The George Mason University Athletics Department welcomes all fans to Fairfax. In order to enhance the experience for all fans, certain policies are in place. Pets will not be allowed in to the Stadium (with the exception of service animals). Also prohibited from the Stadium are any coolers, glass containers, alcoholic beverages and noise makers.
