Sept. 4, 2007

RICHMOND, Va. - Fro Adu, a highly-touted freshman from nearby Rockville, Md., had an impressive debut for the Patriots in the team's 3-0 victory over the Howard Bison on Friday evening at the 2007 Adidas D.C. College Cup at George Mason Stadium, scoring the first two goals of his collegiate career. As a result of his strong performance in this weekend's tournament, Adu was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week.

Playing in his first collegiate match against the Bison, Adu wowed the crowd of 1,368 in attendance with two goals in a span of 8:33 in the second period to break a 0-0 tie and give the Patriots a lead they would never relinquish.

Adu scored the game's first goal at the 52:08 mark, knocking a shot past Howard goalkeeper Chris Taylor to give Mason a 1-0 lead. Both Irvin Martinez and Richard Edgar assisted on Adu's first collegiate goal. After a little more than eight minutes passed, Adu struck again when junior Chris Carroll passed the ball to Martinez, who fired a shot that struck the goalpost and ricocheted right to Adu, who knocked it into the net for the second goal of his career.

In the Patriots' two matches this weekend, Adu took three total shots, scoring twice, as Mason split its two matches at the Adidas D.C. College Cup. For his efforts in the tournament, Adu was named to the 2007 Adidas D.C. College Cup All-Tournament Team as voted on by the head coaches of the participating schools.

The CAA also announced its Co-Players of the Week in men's soccer. Owusu Sekyere of VCU and Anthony Bafile of Drexel split the award.

Adu and his teammates return to action on Friday, Sept. 7 with a 2 p.m. match against Bowling Green at George Mason Stadium.
