FAIRFAX, Va. -
After playing three consecutive road matches, the George Mason men's soccer team returns home to George Mason Stadium on Saturday evening to play the Saint Peter's Peacocks in a 7 p.m. match. Mason enters the match with a 3-2-1 record on the season, while Saint Peter's is currently 6-2-0.
The Patriots played last Saturday night against the University of Richmond at First Market Stadium in Richmond, Va., winning the match by a final score of 2-1. The difference turned out to be a penalty kick that senior midfielder Chris Chaves converted in the 80th minute.
George Mason will be the third consecutive Colonial Athletic Association opponent the Peacocks will face, having already won their previous two matches against both Drexel and Delaware. In fact, Saint Peter's enters the match on a four-game winning streak, with its last victory coming against the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens on Wednesday, Sept. 26 by a final score of 2-0.
One common early-season opponent between the two teams is Monmouth. Both teams traveled to West Long Branch, N.J. to take on the Hawks, with Mason's match ending in a scoreless draw and the Peacocks' losing to the Hawks by a final score of 3-0. Saturday's match will be the first meeting between the Patriots and Peacocks in men's soccer.
Tickets to Saturday night's match will cost $5 for adults and $2 for senior citizens. All full-time enrolled students at George Mason University will be admitted free with a valid Mason student ID. All youth will receive $1 admission to the match as part of Youth Soccer Night at George Mason Stadium. Prizes and giveaways will be available at the match courtesy of U.S. Youth Soccer to help promote Youth Soccer Month in America, which is dedicated to increasing awareness of the many benefits of playing youth soccer in America.
