The George Mason women's soccer team will take on Virginia Tech on Friday night at George Mason Stadium with the Patriots looking for their fourth straight win. The two teams last met in 2006 when they opened the season against each other. They played to a 1-1 tie in that contest in Blacksburg.
The Patriots (3-1-0) opened the season with a 2-0 loss to Rider before taking a 2-1 win over Harvard, a 3-0 win over Stony Brook and a 1-0 win over George Washington. Mason has held the opposition scoreless for more than 200 straight minutes. Mason is 15th in the Mid-Atlantic in Soccer Buzz' most recent rankings.
Virginia Tech (2-1-1) opened the year with a 3-0 win at Radford followed by a 2-0 loss at James Madison. The Hokies then beat #13 Tennessee, 2-1, and tied Loyola, 1-1. Virginia Tech is ranked 7th in the Mid-Atlantic by Soccer Buzz.
The Hokies have been led by a freshman this year as Marika Gray has four of Virginia Tech's six goals. Ashley Owens has allowed just four goals in four games. Mason has got two goals each from Kelly Keelan, Annie Lebherz and L.J. Williams. Kasey Davenport has allowed just three goals in four games.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. The George Mason University Athletics Department welcomes all fans to Fairfax. In order to enhance the experience for all fans, certain policies are in place. Pets will not be allowed in to the Stadium (with the exception of service animals). Also prohibited from the Stadium are any coolers, glass containers, alcoholic beverages and noise makers.
