Of all the summer college baseball leagues in the nation, none is more well-known or more prestigious than the Cape Cod Baseball League. That should only make the achievement of Mason rising junior Jordan Flasher all the more impressive as the Patriot closer was selected to the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game.
Flasher, 2-0 with eight saves and a 1.45 ERA will participate in the game which will be played on Saturday evening. Player for the first-place Bourne Braves, Flasher has pitched in 16 games, finishing 15 of those contests. In 18 and two-thirds innings, he has allowed 12 hits and eight walks while striking out 23 batters. He is tied for second in the league in saves.
Rising sophomore T.J. O'Grady is playing this summer in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League and the pitcher also made his All-Star game, which was played on July 7. Playing for the Metro N.Y. Cadets, O'Grady is pitching both as a starter and out of the bullpen. He is 3-2 with two saves with four starts and a complete game. He has allowed just 30 hits in 26 innings while striking out 21.
Flasher and O'Grady join Brent Weiss and Spencer Wiggins as Mason players to make their respective All-Star games during the summer baseball season.
While those returning players have had success, four former Mason players now in the minor leagues are continuing their quest for a life in professional baseball. Former catcher Jason Bour is the most successful of the four to date. As a member of the Billings Mustangs in the Rookie Pioneer League, the catcher/designated hitter is batting .328 with a home run and 12 RBI in 67 at-bats. He has a .366 on-base percentage, a .433 slugging percentage and a .799 OPS. He is batting .433 with runners on and .625 with runners in scoring position.
Chris Fournier, who missed much of the year with a shoulder injury, has played outfield in 13 games for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A New York-Penn League and he is batting .234 with a .345 on-base percentage and four steals. Robby Jacobsen, playing first base for the Hagerstown Suns in the Class A South Atlantic League, is batting .200 with two homers, 12 RBI and 20 runs scored in 34 games. He has a .324 on-base percentage and a .604 OPS.
The lone pitcher among Mason minor leaguers is J.J. Pannell. Playing in the Rookie Arizona League for the Arizona Giants, he has appeared in seven games with a 3.38 ERA in 10 and two-third innings. He has walked just three batters while striking out 13.
