In November, the George Mason men's basketball team signed three local high school players to National Letters-of-Intent to play for the Patriots beginning with the 2007-08 season. On Friday, all three were named to the prestigious Washington Post All-Met team with two taking First-Team honors.
Cameron Long of Freedom-Woodbridge High School and Vlad Moldoveanu of St. John's College High School were both named to the first team while Isaiah Tate of DeMatha was named honorable mention.
Long, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists while leading Freedom-Woodbridge to the best season in the school's short history, taking them to the Virginia AAA semifinals. Moldoveanu, a 6-foot-11 forward, averaged 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks while shooting 42.3 percent from 3-point range while taking St. John's to the WCAC final. Tate, a 6-foot-3 guard, helped lead DeMatha to final ranking of No. 1 in the Post's weekly poll. St. John's finished fourth while Freedom-Woodbridge was sixth.
There were 10 players selected to the first team, nine of them seniors. From that group who have signed National Letters-of-Intent, only Mason and Georgetown have multiple commitments.
