RICHMOND, Va. - The Virginia Commonwealth Rams rallied for two runs in the ninth for a 10-9 victory over the visiting Patriots of George Mason University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action.
The Rams improve to 17-10 overall and 4-3 in the CAA, while Mason falls to 11-15 and 7-6 in conference play.
The game took on the same look as yesterday as both team's traded blows back and forth with several errors from both teams. Unlike yesterday, the b owed nine runs total over the final three innings as the Black and Gold pulled out the win.
Sophomore Chris Jackson extended his hitting streak to 13 straight games with an RBI double in the home half of the second inning as he plated senior Trai Harris. Jackson would come around to score on a sacrifice fly by junior Kwan Evans as the Rams took an early 2-0 lead.
Junior Sergio Miranda led off the bottom of the third with a single and moved around to third on a hit by pitch and a walk as the Black and Gold loaded the bases with no outs. Jackson picked up an RBI as he drew the bases loaded walk to push the VCU advantage to 3-0.
Mason added a run in the top of the fourth, but the Rams answered to surge ahead 4-1.
George Mason would fight back as they rallied for four runs in the top of the fifth inning with four straight hits, as the Patriots evened the score at 5-5.
The Patriots would take their first lead of the contest on an RBI single by Spencer Wiggins as they took the lead 6-5 in the top of the seventh inning.
The Patriots again tied the game, 7-7, with a run in the top of the eighth.
With one out, Pisker struck out Chris Fournier but a Rams error with two outs allowed the Patriots to push across two unearned runs and regain the lead at 9-8.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Bolden stroked a 3-2 pitch through the right side to plate two runs.
The Rams and Patriots face off in the finale of their CAA three-game set on Sunday afternoon in a 1 p.m. contest.
