George Mason's women's track and field team earned a ninth-place finish, scoring 26 team points, at the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass. The University of Connecticut took home the team title with 61 points.
Sophomore Murielle Ahoure led the women's team at the event, winning two individual championships in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 60-meter dash, Ahoure ran a time of 7.37 seconds in the finals to finish first. She ran an even better time in the semifinals, 7.33 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in George Mason history in the 60-meter dash behind Sherri' Funn's school record of 7.28 set in 1981. In the 200-meter dash, Ahoure crossed the finish line in 23.78 seconds to win the title. Ahoure was named the MVP of the ECAC Championships for her impressive performance at the meet.
In the field events, sophomore Ryann Hendricks leapt to a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.83 meters (19 ft. 1.5 in.). Hendricks also competed in the triple jump, finishing 15th with a mark of 11.74 meters (38 ft. 6.25 in.).
Also in Boston, Mass., George Mason's men's team competed at the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Track and Field Pavilion on the campus of Boston University. Freshman Michael Pachella finished sixth in the finals of the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.21. Also advancing to the finals of his event was junior Brian Hay, who finished in seventh place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.47 seconds.
The Patriots' distance medley relay team of Anthony LaMastro, Mutsa Nyakabau, Kris Cruz and John Crain ran the team's fastest time of the season, crossing the finish line in 10:07.12 for a 16th-place finish in the preliminary rounds.
Freshman Marcus Wyche ran his fastest time of the season in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 49.13 seconds. However, the time didn't qualify Wyche for the finals of the event.
The culminating event of the 2007 indoor season, the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, are scheduled to be held on March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark.
