Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's women's basketball team (8-14, 2-10 CAA) dropped a 76-58 decision to Delaware (20-3, 11-1) in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up at the Patriot Center Thursday evening.

The Patriots cut the deficit to five (13-8) with 6:58 reading on the clock after sophomore forward Tiffany Burroughs (Washington, D.C.) made both of her attempts at the charity stripe. Mason ended up closing out the first half with a perfect showing of 12-of-12 from the line. Delaware had its largest lead of the opening stanza of 15 (23-8) after Tyresa Smith netted the first of her two free throws with just over four minutes remaining. Courtney Irving made a layup for UD as time expired to give the Blue Hens a 34-20 advantage at the break.

The closest Mason would get to UD in the second half was in the opening minutes after junior guard Lateisha Wade (Willingboro, N.J.), who ended with a team-high 16 points, netted a 2-pointer to put the score at 36-24. The Blue Hens had their largest lead with about eight minutes remaining after Smith sank a free throw to give UD a 22-point lead (66-44). Junior guard Casey Quigley (Springfield, Va.) scored Mason's final field goal of the night off of a pass from Burroughs to give Mason its total of 58 points.

Smith scored a game-high 22 points, while Alena Koshansky and Chrissy Fisher added double figures for the Blue Hens with 17 and 11, respectively. Courtney Irving came off the bench to grab a game-best nine boards and added six points for UD.

Mason shot 35 percent from the field (17-of-48), while the Blue Hens made 25 of their 55 attempts (44 percent). Rebounds were even at 34 and Mason ended with a 92 percent showing at the line (22-of-24).

The Patriots will return to action when they host Hofstra on Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
