Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's women's basketball team (8-13, 2-9 CAA) looks to snap a three-game losing streak when the Patriots host the University of Delaware (19-3, 10-1) in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up at the Patriot Center Thursday at 7 p.m.
These two teams competed against each other just three games ago in Newark, Del. (Jan. 28) and the Blue Hens captured a 67-47 win over the Patriots. Junior forward Moni Akintunde (Laurel, Md.) led Mason in scoring against UD with 12 points and Latiesha Wade (Jr.; Willingboro, N.J.) also netted double figures for the Patriots (10). Tyresa Smith led UD with 15 points, while Chrissy Fisher grabbed a game-high nine boards and added 13 points for the Blue Hens.
Delaware has a slight advantage against the Patriots in the overall series, 10-9, and the Blue Hens have won the past six contests. The last time the Patriots defeated UD was on Jan. 22, 2004 by a score of 71-64 at the Patriot Center.
Mason has three athletes who average double figure points in Wade (12.3), senior forward Tracy Ann Holness (10.9) and Akintunde (10.0). Wade leads the Patriots in steal total (35), while Akintunde leads the team in rebounding average (6.9).
Proceeding the match-up on Thursday, the Patriots will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 11 when they host Hofstra at 2 p.m.
