COLUMBUS, Ohio - The eighth-ranked Ohio State (11-1, 2-0 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) men's volleyball team won a 3-0 (30-26, 30-26, 30-25) victory over George Mason (4-3) Saturday night in St. John Arena. Ohio State's Dan Meske (Sr., Willow Springs, Ill.) scored a team-high 14.5 points to lead the Buckeyes while William Price had a match-high 15 for the Patriots. Meske had a team-high 14 kills (.435) and an assist block, while Price had a team-high 14 kills and two assist blocks.

Ohio State took the early lead in game one, leading by as many as four (10-6). At 18-15, two Buckeye errors and a kill from Kyle Gramit tied the game at 18. After ties at 19 and 20, Ohio State kills from Meske and Sam Stevens (5th/Sr., Miami, Fla.) and a Patriot error opened a 23-20 Buckeye lead. At 26-23, an OSU error cut the margin to 26-24. Two George Mason errors and a Robbie Klein (Jr./So., Cincinnati, Ohio) kill set game point at 29-24. A Buckeye error and a Patriot block by Price and Colton Naill stopped two game points to make the score, 29-26. Ohio State closed out the game with a Klein kill to win, 30-26. The Buckeyes hit .500 for the game to .083 for George Mason.

The Buckeyes broke a 2-2 tie in game two with back-to-back ace serves from Klein for a 4-2 lead. A Buckeye error made it 4-3. An OSU kill from Layne Dreven (5th/Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) and two from Stevens opened a 7-3 lead. Two OSU errors and a John Albertson (Jr./So., Ballwin, Mo.) kill made it 8-5. A Patriot solo block by Ryan Kwiatkowski and four OSU errors gave George Mason a 10-8 lead. With George Mason leading, 14-12, two Dreven kills, a Klein ace serve and a Patriot error gave Ohio State a 16-14 lead. At 17-15, a kill and solo block by Mark Burik and an OSU error returned the lead to George Mason at 19-17. The Buckeyes tied the match at 19 with a Meske kill and a Stevens-Albertson block. Tied at 22, a Dreven kill gave OSU a 23-22 lead. Two OSU errors returned the lead to George Mason at 24-23. The Buckeyes, with a Dreven kill and three Patriot errors took a 27-24 lead. A Buckeye error made it 27-25. A kill from Stevens and a Patriot error set game point at 29-25. An OSU error stopped the first game point at 29-26. A George Mason serving error ended the game at 30-26 to give Ohio State a 2-0 lead in the match. The Buckeyes hit .121 for the game to -.077 for the Patriots.

Tied a four in game three, an OSU error, a Price kill and a Price-Kyle Swanson block gave George Mason a 7-4 lead. Kills from Stevens and Price made it 8-5. Two Patriot errors and a Price kill made it 9-7. A Daniel Mathews (Jr., Shorewood, Wis.) kill cut the Patriot lead to one at 9-8. George Mason kills from Swanson and Gramit made it 11-8. A Meske kill and an OSU error made it 12-9, George Mason. A Dreven kill, a Klein ace serve and a Patriot error tied the game at 12. Stevens' gave OSU a 13-12 lead with a kill. Price countered with a kill to tie the game at 13. A Patriot error and Buckeye kills from Albertson and Stevens gave Ohio State a 16-13 lead. At 20-17, two Buckeye errors cut the lead to 20-19. Three kills from Meske countered two kills from Price and one from Burik to move the score to 23-22. A Swanson solo block tied the game at 23. Two Patriot errors and a kill from Mathews opened a 26-23 lead for Ohio State. Two kills from Price and a Patriot error cut the lead to two at 27-25. A Dreven kill followed by a George Mason error set match point at 29-25. Ohio State won the game, 30-25, off a Patriot error, to win the match, 3-0. Ohio State hit .344 for the game to .267 for George Mason.

Ohio State hit .320 for the match to .100 for George Mason. The Buckeyes had a 51-28 margin in kills and a four-to-one advantage in ace serves. OSU's Klein served all four aces for the Buckeyes. Ohio State gave up 24 service errors to 14 for George Mason. Defensively, OSU had a 32-22 margin in digs with Mathews recording a match-high 11 and OSU's Conor Martin (Jr., Avon Lake, Ohio) adding 10. At the net, George Mason had a six-to-five edge in team blocks. Three players for each squad recorded a match-high two total blocks. OSU Mathews produced a match-high 42 assists while Patriot Kwiatkowski had 27.
