Harrisbonburg, Va.--George Mason University's women's basketball team dropped an 88-60 decision to 25th ranked James Madison in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up Thursday evening at the JMU Convocation Center.

The Patriots dropped to 8-16 overall and a 2-12 in league play, while the Dukes remain unbeaten in the CAA at 14-0 and upped their overall record to 23-2. It was JMU's 15th straight victory and 25th win in a row at home.

James Madison senior center Meredith Alexis (Hanover Township, Pa./Bishop Hoban) broke the school career scoring record as she got her record-breaking point on a free throw with 1:52 remaining in the first half.

The game was close in the early stages, with five lead changes and two ties in the opening six minutes of the game. The score was tied 12-12 at 14:00.

JMU then outscored Mason 21-5 over a span of 7:33 to lead by 16 (33-17 at 6:17). Twelve of the Dukes' points came on 3-point field goals and the Dukes led 43-28 at intermission.

JMU's lead grew in the second half as the Dukes were up by as many as 31 points at times (86-55 at 2:18 and 88-57 at 1:34) and the Patriots were never able to battle back from the deficit.

The Patriots had two players scoring in double-figures. Redshirt senior forward Tracy Ann Holness (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) finished with a team-high 18 points, while junior guard Lateisha Wade (Willingboro, N.J./Marshall) added 14.

Wade and junior forward Moni Akintunde (Laurel, Md./Laurel) led the Patriots in rebounding by snagging six rebounds each. Wade also handed out eight assists.

The Patriots will return to action when they face Virginia Commonwealth on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. in a televised game on Comcast SportsNet.
