NEWARK, Del. - Unable to establish a consistent attack, the George Mason women's volleyball team fell to conference leader Delaware, 3-0 (30-20, 30-21, 30-8), on Saturday evening in Colonial Athletic Association action at Viera Court.
Mason (14-10, 7-5 CAA) entered the weekend on a season-long four-match win streak, but was unable to bounce back from its heartbreaking five-game loss on Friday at Towson. Meanwhile, the Blue Hens (26-4, 10-2) extended their advantage at the top of the CAA standings with the victory.
The Patriot offense was led by senior Jaqueline Kohler, who notched eight kills. Delaware, which out-hit the Patriots by a .294-to-.065 margin, was led by Kelly Gibson's 14 kills.
Although Delaware dominated much of the match, the Patriots held its largest lead of the day when it led 8-3 in the second game. However, from there the Blue Hen offense, which controlled the first game as well, mounted a comeback and ultimately took the lead, never looking back as it handed the Patriots their second loss of the weekend.
Mason returns home for its final action of the 2007 regular season when it hosts Northeastern and Hofstra at the Field House on Friday and Saturday.
