The George Mason women's basketball team opens its 2007-08 campaign with a tough road test at #9/10 Georgia on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Stegemann Coliseum in Athens. The two teams met for the first time last year in Fairfax, with the Lady Bulldogs taking a 76-51 victory on December.

Scouting the Lady Bulldogs
Georgia enters the game with an 1-0 record, as it opened the regular season Friday night at home with an 81-53 win over the Richmond Spiders. In preseason action, Georgia went 1-1 in exhibitions, recording a 99-61 victory over DT3-Atlanta before falling to the Premier Players, a squad of former collegiate standouts, 81-64 on Tuesday night. After one game, Georgia's leading scorer is Ashley Houts, who led all scorers with 17 on Friday night.

Last Time The Teams Met...
Mason had its four-game win streak snapped as the Patriots dropped a 76-51 decision to No. 11 Georgia at the Patriot Center. Junior guard Lateisha Wade led the Patriots in scoring with 17 points after shoting 6-of-15 from the field, including two 3-pointers. Senior forward Tracy Ann Holness shot 50 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-8) and ended with a team second-best 16 points on the night. Senior guard Nikkia Slade grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while junior guard Casey Quigley added three assists for Mason in the loss. A box score from the game can be found on the following page.

Matchup To Watch:
Mason forward Moni Akintunde was the Patriots' top rebounder a year ago, and she will be tested heavily by Georgia's three-time All-America forward Tasha Humphrey.

Patriots Outside The CAA
Mason has performed well outside the Colonial Athletic Association recently, as the Patriots earned six of their eight wins last season in non-conference action, including their last three matchups.

On Season Openers
Under Taneyhill, the Patriots have compiled a 3-6 record in their first regular season games of the year. Last season the Patriots opened against the defending national champion Maryland with a loss, but recorded a victory two years ago when they opened the season with a 75-64 win against Mount St. Mary's.

Up Next...
Mason travels to South Orange, N.J., to participate in the Anaconda Sports Seton Hall Basketball Classic on November 16 and 17. The Patriots will do battle with the host Pirates on Friday at 6 p.m., then face either Toledo or San Diego on Saturday at 1 or 3 p.m.
