Wilmington, N.C. -
The George Mason women's soccer team played its first Colonial Athletic Association road match of the season on Friday night and the Patriots played excellent defense but could not come up with a goal as the Patriots fell to UNC Wilmington, 1-0.
Mason keeper Kasey Davenport faced eight shots on goal and she was able to stop seven of those. The only ball that got through against Davenport was Maddy Bullington's shot in the 60th minute. Her chip shot from 30 yards out on the right side got past Davenport and went into the top-left corner of the net.
The Seahawks played strong defense denying the Patriots scoring opportunities. Mason was limited to three shots on goal, all off the foot of L.J. Williams. Each team managed one corner kick per period and UNC Wilmington had a 13-11 edge in fouls. The Patriots were assessed three yellow cards in the match.
The Patriots will return to action on Sunday when they play at Georgia State at 1 p.m.
