Oct. 4, 2007

The George Mason women's soccer team hits the road this weekend as the Patriots head to UNC Wilmington and Georgia State for a pair of Colonial Athletic Association games. Mason will look to improve upon its 1-1-0 mark in the conference and its 5-4-0 overall record.

Mason opened up conference play last weekend with a dominating 2-0 win over Northeastern. The Patriots nearly improved to 2-0-0 in CAA play but surrendered a late 1-0 lead to Hofstra and eventually fell to the Pride in overtime, 2-1. Hofstra is 8-1-0 overall in the CAA.

Mason won't face teams with quite the record of Hofstra, but playing on the road in the CAA is always a challenge and Mason is 0-1-0 on the road and 1-2-0 away from George Mason Stadium this season. The Patriots will start the road trip at 7 p.m. on Sunday at UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks are 4-4-1 overall, 0-2-0 in CAA action. The trip will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Panthers, who are 5-4-0, 0-2-0.

The Seahawks have outscored the opposition 16-11 this year but that's in large part due to a 5-1 win over George Washington and a 4-0 win over Jacksonville. Those are the only times the Seahawks have topped two goals this year and they have been shutout in four straight matches, a span of 373 minutes.

Kelly Renkin has paced the Seahawks with four goals and an assist. Three of those goals were game winners. Tandy Banks has three goals and an assist and Jenny Cauble and Jenna Evans each have two goals and an assist.

Like UNC Wilmington, Georgia State started well but has since struggled. The Panthers jumped out to a 4-1-0 mark to start the year but has since dropped three of four. Those losses have come to Georgia (1-0), James Madison (3-1) and VCU (3-0) with the win coming over Tennessee Tech (3-2).

Kay Harbrueger and Nathalie Carter have each accounted for a third of Georgia State's offense. Harbreuger has five goals and four assists while Carter has five goals and one assist. They each have two game-winning goals as well. Stephanie Cuccia and Karli Klein each have two goals while Apryl Goodwin has one and Caroline Harvischak has two assists.

The Patriots have gotten goals from five players. Annie Lebherz leads the team with four goals, L.J. Williams has three goals and an assist and Kelly Keelan has two goals, both game-winners. Rachel Wiggins has a goal and two assists and Jessica Paris has a goal.

Mason split with the two teams last year. The Patriots lost to UNC Wilmington, 3-2, and beat Georgia State, 4-2. Mason's last trip to Wilmington, in 2005, led to a 2-1 Patriot win while Mason lost at Georgia State, 4-0 that same year.
