FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason women's volleyball team will look to extend its winning ways this weekend when it travels south to face UNC Wilmington and Georgia State. The Patriots will square off against the Seahawks on Friday at 7 p.m., then face the Panthers in Atlanta on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Mason is coming off a successful home weekend in which it defeated both opponents to improve its record to 12-8, 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. On Friday against William and Mary, the Patriots outlasted the Tribe in five games, led by sophomore Rebecca Walter's career-best 30 kills. The next day against VCU, junior Jourdan Dozier also set a new career high with 12 kills as the Patriots took care of the Rams, 3-1.
Mason holds a 31-9 advantage in the all-time series against UNC Wilmington, but has never defeated Georgia State as the Panthers lead 4-0 all-time. Last season, the Patriots swept UNCW with a pair of 3-1 victories, and fell to Georgia State twice.
The Patriot attack is led by the dual threat of Walter and senior Jaqueline Kohler, who have compiled 305 and 300 kills this season, respectively. Kohler is third in the CAA with an average of 3.96 kills per game, while Walter places fifth with a 3.85 average. Freshman Fernanda Bartels sits fifth with 10.53 assists per game, and had a career day Friday against W&M with 66 assists. Junior Jourdan Dozier continues to dominate the net, leading all CAA blockers with an average of 1.34 per game.
UNC Wilmington's offense is led by Megan Nash, who is averaging 2.76 kills per game this season. The Panthers' offense is paced by Amy Lusk, who enters the weekend with a 3.47 kills per game average.
Following the weekend, Mason continues its road swing on November 2 and 3 with matches at Towson and Delaware. Both are set to begin at 7 p.m.
