Box Score
The George Mason women's soccer team played one of its most dominant matches of the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Patriots, rebounding from a final-minute loss on Friday night, took a convincing 4-0 win over Drexel at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots improved to 7-6-0 on the year, 3-3-0 in Colonial Athletic Association action. Drexel fell to 4-6-3, 0-4-2.
Mason played tentative early in the match but began to find its rhythm about 15 minutes into the match. In the 19th minute, the Patriots finally made something happen. L.J. Williams was fouled just outside the Drexel box and Jessica Paris took the ensuing direct kick. She threaded the ball around the right of the wall and to the left of the goalkeeper for a 1-0 Mason lead.
The Patriots, unsatisfied with the one-goal lead, continued to press the attack. In the 27th minute, Annie Lebherz received the ball in the middle about 25 yards out and played a perfect touch pass to a charging Rachel Wiggins on the left side. Wiggins found the bottom left corner of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
Mason was able to make it 3-0 early in the second half. In the 58th minute, Sarah Fack stole the ball about 35 yards out, dribbled through traffic and blasted the ball into the top left corner of the net. The score stayed that way until the 74th minute when Mason again scored off a Drexel foul. This time Kelly Keelan blasted the ball into the top left corner of the net from about 30 yards out.
Mason finished the match with an 11-2 edge in shots on goal and a 22-3 advantage in total shots. The Patriots will return to action on Friday when the Patriots play Old Dominion on the road at 7 p.m.
