NEWARK, Del. -
Junior forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe lifted George Mason (5-4-1, 2-1-0 CAA) to a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens (1-8-1, 1-2-0 CAA) with a goal with just 1:34 remaining in the second overtime on Friday night at the UD Mini-Stadium in Newark, Del.
A Delaware defender deflected a Patriot corner kick in the 108th minute of play, but Adjeman-Pamboe gathered the ball in the box and blasted it past Delaware goalie Taylor Thames, and into the back of the net for the game-winner. The crucial goal was Adjeman-Pamboe's second of the season.
The Fightin' Blue Hens outshot the Patriots 19-5 in the match, and took 14 shots on goal. Mason goalkeeper Sean Kelley proved why he was the 2006 CAA Rookie of the Year and a 2007 Preseason All-CAA honoree, keeping Delaware off the board with a career-high 14 saves - eight in the first half - including several stops on point-blank opportunities. Kelley also came up with three critical stops in the second overtime period.
With the win, Mason extended its unbeaten streak against Delaware, improving to 6-0-1 in the all-time series between the two schools. The Patriots defeated the Fightin' Blue Hens by an identical score of 1-0 last season.
The George Mason men's soccer team returns to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. match against CAA rival Drexel in Philadelphia, Pa. The Dragons enter Sunday's match with a 6-2-2 overall record and a perfect 3-0-0 mark in conference matches after Friday's 2-1 win over Towson.
