Box Score

Fairfax, Va.--Junior forward Moni Akintunde (Laurel, Md.) collected her 11th career double-double Tuesday evening to help lead Mason to a 73-50 victory over Brown in a non-conference match-up at the Patriot Center. With this win, the Patriots improve to 7-6 on the year, while the Bears fall to 2-12 overall.

Mason kept Brown scoreless for the first six minutes and scored 14 unanswered points, five of which came from Akintunde who ended the contest with a game-high 20 points. Sophomore forward Catherine Schaper pulled Brown within eight points (11:52), but that was the closest Brown would get to Mason the entire game.

Freshman guard Rashauna Hobbs (Bowie, Md.) made a bucket in the paint to push Mason's lead to 18 (35-17) with just under three minutes remaining in the half. The Patriots went into break with a 38-19 advantage after Akintunde, who shot 8-of-11 on the night and grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds, sank a 3-pointer with six seconds on the clock.

The Patriots had their largest lead of the game (27) after junior guard Casey Quigley (Springfield, Va.) made both of her attempts at the line to give Mason a 62-35 lead with 18 minutes left in the contest.

In the closing minutes, sophomore forward walk-on Tiffany Burroughs (Washington, D.C.) scored her first career point as she sank both attempts at the charity stripe and went on to make a lay-up at the 1:00 mark to give Mason a 71-46 advantage.

Mason shot 47 percent on the night and outrebounded Brown, 38-33, while the Bears made 17-of-52 attempts from the field.

The Patriots will return to action when they host James Madison on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
