Box Score

Williamsburg, Va.--Mason sophomore center Jessica Smith (Dartmouth, Mass.) made the front end of a one-and-one with 15 seconds remaining to put the score at 46-44 in favor of the Patriots, but William & Mary freshman guard Robyn Barton netted a trey with three seconds left for the game-winning basket and the Patriots (6-6, 1-2 CAA) fell by a score of 47-46 in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up at William & Mary Hall Sunday afternoon.

It was a tale of two halves as the Patriots held the Tribe to just 24 percent shooting in the first stanza after shooting 46 percent and Mason went into the break with a 28-13 advantage. In the second 20 minute span, Mason made six of its 22 attempts from the field, while the Tribe shot 43 percent.

In the first half, Mason went on a 13-0 run in a five minute span, to give the Patriots a 23-9 lead. During that run, Mason had six different players score a field goal, which included a trifecta by junior guard Lateisha Wade (Willingboro, N.J.), who tied for a game-high 13 points.

Mason scored five unanswered points in the beginning of the second half and the Tribe ended its six minute scoring drought with a layup by junior guard Devin James at the 16:21 mark. The College took its first lead of the game with about four minutes remaining and kept its lead for about three and a half minutes. Wade pushed Mason ahead, 45-44, with a fastbreak layup as the clock read 30 seconds, but the Patriots could not hold on and dropped another close CAA contest.

The Patriots take a break from conference action and host Brown on Jan. 9 at the Patriot Center with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
