George Mason (3-1, 1-1 EIVA Tait) earned its first conference victory of the season, downing East Stroudsburg University (3-3, 1-1 EIVA Tait) in four games (24-30, 31-29, 30-27, 30-26) in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division action on Wednesday evening at Koehler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
After losing the first game by six points, 30-24, the Patriots were in danger of falling behind 2-0 in the match but pulled out a 31-29 win in the second game to even the match at one game apiece. After winning the second game, Mason went on to win the third game 30-27 and the fourth game 30-26 to close out the match.
Redshirt freshman opposite hitter William Price, the national leader in kills per game, points per game and aces per game, as well as the two-time reigning EIVA Tait Division Player of the Week, once again led the Patriots' attack, finishing with a match-high 29 kills and eight digs.
Setter Billy Freesmeier nearly had a double-double, with a team-high 51 assists and nine digs. Senior libero Graham Sheppard led the Patriots with 10 digs. Kyle Swanson and Colton Naill both had six blocks for Mason, which finished with 16 blocks as a team.
East Stroudsburg was led by Jon Daley's 24 kills and nine blocks, Adam Holdredge's 60 assists and RJ Roth's 24 digs.
George Mason returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 when it travels to Penn State for an 8 p.m. EIVA Tait Division match.
