Last Weekend...
Mason continued its win streak this past weekend as the Patriots shutout Northeastern, 1-0, on Oct. 22 and edged out Hofstra, 3-2, two days later at George Mason Stadium.
On Friday, junior midfielder Adam Lobene scored Mason's lone goal in a penalty kick situation. This marks Lobene's second goal of the season and currently leads the Patriots in total goals.
In Mason's match-up against the Pride, sophomore defender Michael Vallie Md. tapped in the game-winning goal with just under three minutes remaining to give Mason a 3-2 win.
Junior midfielder Jordan Mault took a corner kick seconds before Mason's third goal of the day and the Hofstra defenders could not clear the ball. Midfielder Adam Lobene fired off a shot, which was knocked down by Hofstra junior goalkeeper Tom Johnasen, but Vallie came from the right side to knock in Lobene's miss for the Patriots' game-winning goal. This was Vallie's first goal in a Mason uniform and Lobene's first assist of the season and the helper pushed Lobene's point total to three on the weekend.
Senior midfielder Francis McCardle opened up the scoring for Mason as he fired off a shot straight up the middle at the top of the box off of a pass from sophomore forward Dan Ames just inside the 11th minute. Hofstra answered and tied the game about 10 minutes later as junior midfielder Chris Cox headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net off of a pass from senior defender Gary Flood. The Pride then took the lead in the 24th minute as freshman midfielder Rob Youhill passed from the right side to junior forward Charalambos Rossides who fired off a shot from about three yards out.
In the 76th minute, sophomore Chris Carroll was all alone and took a chip shot to the left side of the net to beat Johansen for his first goal of the season and knotted the game at two.
