Sept. 20, 2006

George Mason (4-2-0) vs. Northeastern (2-4-1)
George Mason Stadium (Fairfax, Va.)
Sept. 22, 2006; 7 p.m.

Series Records... George Mason and Northeastern have only met on the field twice in men's soccer, with the most recent coming last season. The Patriots tied the Huskies, 0-0, in Boston, Mass. on Oct. 7 to put the overall record with NU at 1-0-1 in favor of Mason. The Patriots own a 6-1-1 overall record against Hofstra, which includes the scoreless tie from the 2005 campaign on Oct. 9 in Hempstead, N.Y.

Twice as Nice... For the second week in a row, freshman goalkeeper Sean Kelley was named Colonial Athletic Association Brine Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office.

Kelley tallied three saves in Mason's 1-0 win over George Washington on Sept. 16 at the Mount Vernon Athletics Complex and now has a total of 25 saves thus far this season. After Saturday's victory, Kelley has had three consecutive shutouts and four total in just six career matches. Including this past weekend's competition, Kelley leads the CAA with a 0.66 goals against average and sits 23rd in the nation with this average. In addition, the Kentucky native is tied for 18th in the nation in save percentage (0.862).

Last Weekend... George Mason University's men's soccer team extended its win streak to three as the Patriots downed George Washington by a score of 1-0 at the Mount Vernon Athletics Complex in a non-conference match-up on Sept. 16.

In the 25th minute, sophomore midfielder Chris Carroll played through to the left side of the net and handed it off to senior midfielder Francis McCardle. McCardle then served it across to sophomore forward Dan Ames, who tapped it in the net to the right corner for the eventual game-winning goal. This marks Ames first goal and McCardle's first assist of the season.

About 10 minutes later, junior midfielder Jordan Mault missed a one-on-one as he pushed it just wide of the net on the right side. Freshman Sean Kelley was in the net the entire game for the Patriots and tallied three saves on the afternoon.

Mason outshot GWU, 14-11, and the Colonials had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Where in the CAA?... As a team, Mason is tied for second in the Colonial Athletic Association in goals allowed (0.67), is second in goals against average (0.66) and is tied for first in shutouts (4).

About the Competition... Northeastern heads into this weekend's competition with a 2-4-1 overall record. The Huskies opened up the season with two wins, but have not claimed a victory since Aug. 29 when NU defeated Maine on the road by a score of 2-1.

Hofstra, two-time defending CAA champion, has collected an overall record of 3-2-1 in non-conference play. The Pride is coming off of a 1-0 win over New Hampshire in Hempstead, N.Y. (Sept. 17).

Among the Best... The Patriots are tied for sixth in the nation in shutout percentage (0.67), 16th in save percentage (.862) and 25th in goals against average (0.66).

CAA Openers... Since 1985, Mason holds an 18-2-1 overall record in Colonial Athletic Association openers and the Patriots are 10-1-1 when playing the first conference contest in Fairfax.
