Box Score

Alexandria, Va.--George Mason University's men's soccer team (4-2) extended its win streak to three as the Patriots downed George Washington (2-3-1) at the Mount Vernon Athletics Complex in a non-conference match-up Saturday afternoon.

In the 25th minute, sophomore midfielder Chris Carroll (Annandale, Va.) played through to the left side of the net and handed it off to senior Francis McCardle (MF; Fairfax, Va.). McCardle then served it across to sophomore forward Dan Ames (Livonia, N.Y.), who tapped it in the net to the right corner for the eventual game-winning goal. This marks Ames first goal and McCardle's first assist of the season.

About 10 minutes later, junior midfielder Jordan Mault (Goshen, Ind.) missed a one-on-one as he pushed it just wide of the net on the right side.

Freshman Sean Kelley (Lexington, Ky.) was in the net the entire game for the Patriots and tallied three saves on the afternoon.

Mason outshot GWU, 14-11, and the Colonials had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Patriots will return to action when they host Northeastern on Sept. 22 (7 p.m.) for Mason's first Colonial Athletic Association match-up of the season.
